Nature and sport

Maribor is also an exceptional sports city, known for Pohorje, the ski, hiking and cycling centre. You can also cycle to the Maribor wine road which is full of joy and local delicacies, paddle on the Drava River, take a walk along its embankment or refresh yourself in the Mariborski otok swimming pool in the summer months. In January, the city hosts the Golden Fox ski competition, which attracts alpine enthusiasts from all over the world.

Cycling

In the city and its surroundings, there are countless cycling routes for fans of both plain and mountain cycling routes, i.e. uphill cycling. The most popular routes are along the Drava River, along Pohorje, along the wine-growing hills of Kozjak, and at the same time, it is an excellent starting point for cycling trips to Prekmurje and Slovenian or Austrian Carinthia.

Skiing

Mariborsko Pohorje, together with Areh, is considered to be the largest winter centre in Slovenia. It has about 42 kilometres of ski runs and 20 different ski lifts. In addition to night skiing, it offers visitors many other winter activities.

Hiking

It also offers excellent hiking trails and views of Maribor and its surroundings. Explore the Pohorje slopes and primaeval forest, Lovrenška, Črna and Ribniška peat bogs with lakes, the mighty waterfalls Veliki and Mali Šumik or head to the other side of the Drava, among the colourful wine-growing hills and panoramic paths of Kozjak.

Wake Park

Dooplek Wake Park is the first Slovenian "full-size wake park" - a water surfing and skiing centre. The park is situated in the municipality of Duplek, only 10 minutes by car from Maribor.
